Princess of Thorns by Amberlyn Holland

At the moment tyrannical King Aegron the Cruel was assassinated, each of his children was struck by a different dark curse. Five years later, the Dark Kingdom is struggling to survive. Princess Islyne’s body sleeps undisturbed behind a wall of thorns. But her mind is awake and able to explore the kingdom unseen. And, within the bramble forest that’s become her home, her spirit takes on a form that is almost real. For the first time in her sheltered, restricted life, Izzy knows what it’s like to feel free. Duke Conall will do whatever is necessary to protect his kingdom from the damage and chaos left in the curse’s wake. Even if it means rescuing the bride he never wanted. But Islyne’s not the meek princess he remembers, and she has no intention of living her life as nothing more than a political pawn. So when Conall mistakes her for a servant, Izzy hatches a plan to keep him far from the Palace where her body sleeps. As the danger grows, however, she realizes maybe there’s more to Conall too. She’s just not sure if the gentle kindness lurking beneath the arrogant mask is enough to risk spending the her life as nothing more than a political pawn. It’s going to take more than a simple kiss for Islyne and Conall to find their Happily-Ever-After.

A Wife for Carter by Wendy May Andrews

They didn’t meet until after the wedding day. Carter McLain has finally accomplished the success he was striving for when he moved to the frontier a decade ago. All that’s missing is a wife to share it with. Having no desire to leave his land, he requests a friend back home to arrange a proxy marriage for him. When his bride seems too good to be true, Carter wonders if he did the right thing. The highly publicized deaths of Ella St. Clair’s parents cause her to lose everything. Left destitute, alone, and friendless, she grudgingly accepts the offer of marriage by proxy to a man she has never met. The long trip West leaves her plenty of time for second thoughts. What does the future hold for these legally bound strangers? Can they get past their secrets to find happiness?

Redeeming Christmas by Kristen M. Fraser

Christmas. It’s a bittersweet time of year for me. While I embrace the reason for the season, my heart weighs heavy with grief whenever the first strains of Jingle Bells hit the airwaves. All I want for Christmas this year is a secluded cabin, a good book, and a Do Not Disturb sign on the front door. I need time alone. Time away from happy families and holiday cheer. Away from flashing lights and endless carols. Away from work parties and all things holly and jolly. The whole reason I’ve come to Hidden Valley Hideway is to avoid the hustle and bustle and to escape all things merry and bright. I just want to get through the holiday season without being reminded of everything I’ve lost. I want to forget about the dark cloud of grief that follows me everywhere, and refocus my heart on what truly matters. But somehow, the snowstorm didn’t get the memo that I wanted to be alone. Because as things would have it, I find myself stuck in the cabin of Mr. Christmas himself. A few hot cocoas, a surprising rendition of Silent Night, and some pretty twinkling lights later, I’m thawing to the idea that despite my broken heart, there is still joy to be found. Perhaps this year, I’ll say goodbye to my grinchiness and rediscover that Christmas actually is the most wonderful, heart-warming, hope-filled time of the year.
